Mrs. Hemalatha Chandrasekaran, a person with normal health with no medical comorbidities or health issue in her entire life, contracted Idiopathic Lung Disease also known as Hypersensitivity Pneumonitis in 2019. The Doctors in Mumbai suspected exposure to pigeons and Pigeon Insects to be the cause of this degenerative disease.
Despite best Medical care, her condition worsened suddenly towards December 2022, necessitating registering for Lung Transplant in the best Lung Transplant Hospital in Chennai. However, the disease progressed very fast suddenly and she died in early 2023 waiting for a Donor Lung (a few lungs did come within 5 weeks’ time but they were all unsuitable for her). And we were rudely awakened to realise that the awareness of degenerative lung diseases due to exposure to pigeons was very poor among the public and even many Doctors. Only now this awareness is growing somewhat. The pigeon menace is in a most alarming situation in Mumbai and Bengaluru and a few other Metros too.
Hemalatha was a spiritually oriented person and had set up the Mumbai Chembur SKY Trust in 2000 (a Registered Charitable Trust) to spread the Simplified Kundalini Yoga Teachings to the people of Mumbai and Maharashtra. SKY system was founded by Swamiji Vethathiri Maharishi in Tamil Nadu in 1958 to teach, Yoga (Exercises), Meditation and Kaya Kalpa Yoga and spiritual teachings suitable for every Indian and global citizen too. So far, more than 15 Million people have benefitted from Vethathiri Maharishi’s Teachings across 24 Countries through 240 Trusts and through more than 15000 Professors and 60,000 Masters serving in these centres. Hemalatha had received her initiation from Swamiji in 1981 and has facilitated imparting initiation to SKY system to around 6000 persons from Maharashtra and Goa alone. In addition, she had offered counselling services to innumerable persons who were suffering from personal losses or family related issues and many have acknowledged how they benefitted from her counselling.
Hema (as she was fondly called) was a good Singer and she has sung and recorded many songs, (and some of them along with her Daughter too) for a few groups, apart from being an excellent home maker.
Through out her later part of life she was a on a constant spiritual pursuit and wanted to realise self and achieve liberation from the birth cycle.
